The Minister of Social Development (Mides), Martín Lema, announced during the celebration of World Food Day, held at the technical school of Malvín Norte, the incorporation in 2023 of mobile kitchens as part of the actions that the portfolio will implement to strengthen the National Food Institute (INDA).
The objective is to facilitate access to food for more people, incorporating dynamic points in different parts of the national territory. In this way, the service can be provided to those people who, due to distance or difficulties in moving, do not access the INDA dining rooms. There will be a schedule for different zones, he explained.
The minister informed that, likewise, dining rooms will be added, which will be added to the 57 that exist throughout the country. In addition, INDA will continue to collaborate with more than 500 institutions that work with the elderly, disabled or children. Also, support will continue to be provided to people who access the different portfolio programs.
To specify it, a budget item was requested in the Rendering of Accounts, both for 2023 and 2024.
Beyond these concrete actions, the ministry seeks information to achieve a clear picture of the food situation in the country. In this sense, and in agreement with the National Institute of Statistics (INE), quality data will be obtained, disaggregated geographically. “The information will allow us to outline a better strategy in what has to do with public policies,” he stressed. Results will be available in early November.
