The Ministry of Social Development (Mides) announced that they are investing $500,000 for the benefit of older adults who do not have a stable place to live.
Irasema Rosas, coordinator of the Elderly Adult of the Mides added that the plan for the elderly was updated and announced that the Day House is being built in the Juan Díaz corregimiento, where older adults with healthy aging will be welcomed. This project is 35% complete and they expect it to be completed by the end of 2023.
“This is a space where there will be rooms for different activities, different dynamics, it will have 2 buses so that adults can leave this space for meetings or tours outside the facilities and we will have qualified personnel for the care of older adults” , said.
Rosas revealed that the $500,000 is being invested to renovate all the facilities of the home of the Municipality of Panama ‘Golden Years’.
Among the improvements to this center are the construction of two pavilions with bathrooms and a first aid clinic. The work is already 73% complete and should be completed by the end of the year.
He stressed that currently in Panama there are 77 homes that are managed by religious organizations, NGOs, individuals and legal entities, but that the Panamanian State does not have any homes, except for the Años Dorados shelter managed by the municipality of Panama.
