The Minister of Social Development, Martín Lema, reported this Wednesday that the number of beneficiaries who access the discount on supergas refills increased in the first days of June in relation to the same date in 2021. He also explained that the discount increased from 15 to 50% and will be valid until September.
Lema reported that in total there are about 10,000 users who accessed the discount for refilling 13-kilogram supergas cylinders. The aid is aimed at people who receive the Uruguay Social Card (TUS), Equity Plan family allowances, Old Age Assistance benefits or family allowances, through the Social Security Bank (BPS) up to the first tier.
Lema recalled that during June 2021 there had been 4,000 Mides beneficiaries who used the discount provided by that unit.
Mides receives contribution of products for users
This afternoon, at the Mides headquarters, the institution received a donation of personal hygiene, cleaning and food items to distribute among beneficiaries of social programs. Minister Martín Lema participated; the undersecretary of Social Development, Andrea Brugman; the national director of Social Protection, Fernanda Auesperg, and representatives of the donor firm.
Specifically, Lema indicated that the products will go to the National Directorate of Social Protection and the National Directorate of Support for the Released (Dinali). There they will be distributed to homeless people and those who have recently regained their freedom.
The hierarch stressed that the signing of this agreement represents fundamental support, since it “marks the collective construction of social welfare.” Likewise, he highlighted the importance of the contributions made by different sectors of society and how they are used to improve the quality of care that Mides offers.
