Midagri: The agricultural sector achieved a growth of 12.4% in November 2024

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midragri) announced that for the second consecutive month, the agricultural sector registered double-digit growth; achieving an increase of 12.4% in the month of November 2024, compared to the same period in 2023.

In this way, Midagri reported that the increase in the agricultural sector during this penultimate month of 2024 was driven by the increase in the agricultural subsector by 19.1% and the livestock subsector by 2.4%.

The main products that increased their production last November were: mango, which grew +433% (favorable weather conditions mainly in Piura); 100% blueberry (in La Libertad, Lambayeque and Ica); choclo corn +30.0% (in Lima and Ancash); grapes +23.9% (in Piura, Ica and Lambayeque); potato +17.8% due to the greater harvested area (in Arequipa, Lima and Ica), among others.

For its part, the livestock sector in that month registered an increase of 2.4% compared to the same period in 2023. This result is largely due to the greater production of chicken, which rose by 2.3% (in Lima and La Libertad), fattened turkey +37.5% (mainly in Lima), raw cow’s milk +2.6% (in La Libertad and Arequipa) and pork +3.9% (in Lima and La Libertad).

Greater production

On the other hand, the agricultural sector accumulated a growth of 4.5% in the period January – November of last year compared to the same period in 2023, supported by the greater production of the agricultural subsector (+6.4%) and the livestock subsector (+ 1.2%).

For example, in the first eleven months of the year, the highest production of dry grain pallar +178% (in Lambayeque and La Libertad) was highlighted; quinoa +70.8% (in Puno, Ayacucho and Junín); blueberry by 59.3% (largest area in production in La Libertad, Lambayeque and Ica); starchy corn +20.6% (in Huancavelica, Apurímac and Cusco), among others.

The greater potato production +18.5% was also highlighted due to the greater harvested area and yield (in Puno, Apurímac and Ayacucho); onion +15.0% (in Arequipa, La Libertad and Tacna); alfalfa +8.3% (higher yield in Puno, Moquegua and Apurímac due to favorable weather conditions); paddy rice +5.9% (in Piura, Lambayeque and Huánuco), among others.

While in the field of the livestock subsector, an increase of 1.2% was observed during this period. This increase was mainly attributed to the higher production of chicken that increased by 1.1% (mainly in Lima), pork +4.5% (higher output in Lima, Ica and Arequipa), fattening turkey 29.8% (higher output in Lima, Ica and Arequipa) and beef +1.3% (higher output in Huánuco, Amazonas and Lima).
