Small -scale agro -export in Peru takes an important step with the export of 140 tons Dand peanut Organic to France from the Ecological and Solidarity Agricultural Cooperative Piura (Caes Piura), as part of a commercial agreement with the ethiquable company, which plans to reach 500 tons at the end of this year.
This office, technically and commercially backed by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), through Agromercado, opens the export calendar planned between June and December, during which 20 additional containers will be completed, with 20.16 tons of peanuts each.
Since 2023, Agromercado has accompanied Caes Piura in a technical assistance process, which covers compliance with organic production standards, quality control and certifications required by the European market, known for its strict regulations for safety and sustainability.
The world demand for organic peanuts maintains a growth trend, driven by the preference of healthy foods and its different uses, covered by snacks and butter to culinary oils and ingredients. In this scenario, the peanut that produces the Piura Cooperative gains competitive advantage for its quality and sustainability in the global market.
Small export producers
Integrated by 230 small producers from the districts of Montero, Jililí, Sicchez, his and Ayabaca, Caes Piura is consolidated as a relevant actor in the global offer of healthy agricultural products. With traditional pest and disease management practices – synthetic agrochemicals books – the cooperative supports an organic agricultural production model that combines ancestral knowledge with international quality standards.
In addition to peanuts, Caes Piura has diversified its portfolio with exports of panela, chifles and silk banana flour, all certified under stamps such as Usda Organic, European Union (Eunop), RTPO, JAS and SPP Fair Commerce. These certifications, recognized in the main markets of the world, guarantee the traceability and added value of its offer.
Elber Meza, general manager of Caes Piura, states that the growth of the cooperative is based on a local socioeconomic plan focused on generating sustainable employment and curbing youth migration, with the collection and processing plant located in the district of Montero, province of Ayabaca, a rural area of high agricultural potential. In addition, he highlighted the relevance of the technical assistance provided by Agromercado.
With this advance, Midagri, through Agromercado, reinforces its commitment to a sustainable and quality export model, which not only boosters the regional economy through the production of peanuts, but also strengthens the position of Peru as an outstanding supplier of organic agricultural products in the international market.
Peruvian peanuts in figures
In 2024, Peru exported 2,538 tons of peanuts in grain without conventional shell, generating 2.2 million dollars and conquering markets such as Ecuador, France and the Netherlands. The cultivation of this oleaginous grain extends at about 4,000 hectares, mainly in the coastal valleys of Lima and Piura, and on a smaller scale in Ayacucho, San Martín and Loreto.
