The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) urged the concessionaire Chavimochic SAC to desist from its economic pretensions, in order to work on a joint proposal that leads to unlocking the development of the third stage of the project Chavimochic.
In a statement, the aforementioned ministerial portfolio ratified its commitment to move towards the resumption of this process.
“We address our producer sisters and brothers, direct beneficiaries of the Chavimochic Project, to assure them that we work for them, safeguarding their interests, but within the framework of the law, with transparency and banishing any type of subordinate interest linked to corruption”, is indicated in this.
Midagri asks the Chavimochic SAC Consortium to work on a technical proposal for an addendum and thus overcome the impasse that is currently in the International Arbitration Court.
Said body has denied the request to extend the deadline for signing the aforementioned addendum and the final decision it will issue on this issue will be announced on Monday, October 3.
Given this, the Midagri attorney has requested a new extension, waiting for what the International Arbitration Court decides.
Background
The concessionaire Chavimochic SAC, made up of the companies Odebrecht Engineering and Construction (OEC) and Aenza (former Graña y Montero), took Peru before an International Arbitration Court, alleging alleged breaches of the concession contract by the Peruvian State, demanding compensation of $118 million.
The deadline to laud this issue was suspended twice, on April 26 and July 27, 2002. In view of this, the International Arbitration Court issued a procedural order providing that the reading of its final decision on this litigation be made public on next Monday.
