The Minister of Agrarian Development and IrrigationOscar Zea, affirmed that in less than 15 days the importation of fertilizers and their delivery to farmers will take place, within the framework of the planting campaign.
“We must try to get these fertilizers here in Peru to deliver to farmers as soon as possible, in less than a fortnight”indicated the head of the Midagri on the outskirts of the Congress of the Republic.
Zea explained that the estimated final amount dedicated to the purchase of urea will be S/ 740 million, after several observations from the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).

On the other hand, the logistics of the transfer will depend on the country from which these products will be purchased. In the case of Bolivia or Ecuador, the dispatch would be by land. However, the government manages other possible sellers that could meet the country’s demand for fertilizers, such as Venezuela, Morocco or China.
“Bolivia only has five tons in stock. But we have other countries that have reported that they do have these fertilizers in greater quantities, such as Venezuela, Morocco or China”he pointed.
He stressed that, at most, the day after tomorrow they will have ready and signed the emergency decree that will enable the funds to carry out the importation of urea.
However, he clarified that despite the fact that Peruvian farmers require a minimum of 250,000 tons of fertilizer, a smaller amount will be purchased.
