The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) continues to compile a record of the damage to agricultural crops nationwide, as a result of the bad weather that persists in the country.
The total areas affected by category: Rice (4,324.22ha); corn (155.15ha); cucurbits (107.4ha); roots and tubers (46.00ha); banana (709.96ha),
cocoa (1.00ha); chili pepper (8.43ha); coffee (2988.5ha); and tomato (26.00ha).
This second report includes other areas of affected items such as:
Papaya (17.00ha); bean (23.00ha) ; artisanal cane (2.00ha); celery (8.4ha); beans (7.5ha) ; pigeon pea (13.74ha); lettuce (4.07ha); broccoli (0.64ha) ; onion (36.82ha); broad beans (1.00ha); pineapple (3.00ha); cucumber (1.15ha); potatoes (3.47ha); cabbage (1.06ha); carrot (1.38ha); vegetables (20.00ha).
The provinces most affected, in order of magnitude, are: Veraguas, Chiriquí, Herrera, Los Santos and Darién.
Regarding the figures for the damage to hectares insured by the Agricultural Insurance Institute (ISA), the following are detailed: Rice (542.94ha); corn (24ha); onion (0.55ha) and potato (1.17ha).
The data is provided by the technical commission made up of the Directorates of Agriculture, Agroindustries, Rural Development, Livestock, regional directors and the coordinator of the agri-food chains, Eric Fidel Santamaría and the regional coordinator, Francisco Rodríguez.
MIDA continues to receive preliminary figures from the different productive regions of the country.
