The Chirican food cargo carriers plan to strike this Sunday due to the high cost of fuel, which would affect various sectors of the country, for which the Minister of Agricultural Development (MIDA), Augusto Valderrama, called for dialogue to find solutions to this problem.
He added that in 29 months of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and four more at war due to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, MIDA has shown its support to producers, traders, consumers and importers, by facilitating activities in the agricultural sector so that there is no lack of food in the country and that supplies arrive on time, thus guaranteeing national production.
With the oil crisis and after constant protests as a measure of pressure by drivers in the transportation sector, the government of President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen froze the gallon of fuel (B/.3.95) so that the producers of the national territory do not see themselves affected and much less the carriers.
“We will be facing this problem; there is already a commission, led by the deputy minister of MIDA, Carlo Rognoni, in Chiriquí”, emphasized the head of the agricultural portfolio. He added that once they meet there is a clear and precise line from President Cortizo Cohen to give support, paying special attention to the food sector.
“I make a call to the entire Panamanian population, to sit down at a dialogue table, this is not the time to close streets and prevent producers from moving their product and people from going to work, because this creates mistrust and in turn does not It favors the economic reactivation”, he pointed out.
On the other hand, the Land Transit and Transportation Authority (ATT) was informed that the owners of vehicles with commercial registration and rolling agricultural machinery, and, according to Executive Decree No. 13 of May 27, 2022, the fuel voucher began its distribution from June 10, 2022, for a period of 3 months.
