The Ministry of Culture, (MiCultura), in a virtual meeting with members of the Society of Friends of the Afro-Antillean Museum of Panama, (SAMAAP), promised to ensure the security and content of the Afro-Antillean Museum.
The national director of MiCultura Museums, Anayansi Chichaco, explained that part of the fence that surrounds the Afro-Antillean Museum has been constantly vandalized, which is why it was decided to fill it with concrete blocks in the existing spaces where the sections of metal.
Chichaco explained that in the process the mural designed by the painter, Marta Noemi Noriega, was affected, but that in the next stage it has been planned to maintain the mural and restore it in the affected parts, however if this is not the case, because the artist resides outside the country, other artists could be called for a new design, Chichaco explained.
“The ministry chose the security of the Antillean Museum and its contents,” said Chichaco, while noting that there is also a commitment to maintain the painting in its entirety.
The Afro-Antillean Museum of Panama, simply known as the Afro-Antillean Museum or MAAP, is an ethnographic museum located in the Calidonia corregimiento.
