Urban transport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra is divided. Since the morning of this Friday, October 28, a group joined the strike for the 2023 census, reinforcing the blockades in the city, while another fraction began a ‘counter-blockade’ demanding the right to work.
On Thursday, the director of public transportation, Mario Guerrero, officially announced the adherence of the sector to the points of blockages distributed in the capital of Santa Cruz to intensify the regional protest and pressure the Government to solve the conflict.
Since the early hours of this Friday, these federations blocked different areas of the capital municipality. However, during a tour of the EL DEBER team, it was observed that the line that rejects the strike also had a strong presence on the streets.
“We need to work because we live from day to day, not unemployment, we don’t want unemployment”, emphasized a driver who participated in a mobilization against the departmental strike and Guerrero’s determination to join the measure. This protest was carried out in the Three Thousand Plan. Several of the buses carried signs with messages such as “union sold to the Committee”, “not unemployed” and “there is no pocket to hold”.
In a contact with EL DEBER, Guerrero confirmed that an urban transport group was annoyed with the determination to support the strike, a situation that he claims to understand by the “desperation of debts”; however, he confirmed that the measure was taken in search of better days for Santa Cruz.
“There is a line that has been expressed in this way with its banners. There is a total desperation of the partners, they are desperate for debts. NWe understand that it is the inconvenience of not being able to bring the daily bread to your home”Guerrero noted.
These are the lock points
The microphones at the head of Guerrero are in the South Zone reinforcing citizen protest in the Moscow Avenue, double lane to La Guardia and eighth ring, the Petrolera avenue and Palmasola.
In the Virgin area of Cotoca they also cut off the entire avenue at the fifth, eighth and ninth rings. Another blocking point was installed in the eighth ring of the Cambródromo and the Virgen de Luján area.
While the lines that reject the strike and some trufi drivers blocked the main access to the Industrial Park, between the fifth and sixth ring of Barrio La Primavera, at the height of Trillo. They were also installed between the eighth ring road between G77 avenue and Julio Leigue neighborhood.
