The attorney general of Michoacán, Carlos Torres Piña, reported that the authenticity of the documents linking the first detainee by the murder of Bernardo Bravo Manríquez, national leader of the lemon treeswith an alleged Association of Citrus Growers of the Apatzingán Valley. He announced that there are several lines of investigation open and the participation of more people in the crime that occurred on October 20 is not ruled out.
“We will review the authenticity of this documentation to be able to determine any responsibility,” said the prosecutor, who explained that in the Tierra Caliente region the majority of inhabitants are dedicated to the cutting and production of lemon, which is why he asked not to advance judgments about the detainee’s links with the productive sector.
Torres Piña announced that the agency will offer protection of Bravo Manríquez’s familyif requested, once they go through their grief.
“We are going to respect this stage of privacy, but we will be attentive to any concerns or requests that arise from them,” he said.
The official also confirmed that Bernardo Bravo did not present formal complaints to the Prosecutor’s Office, despite having publicly expressed his concern about extortion and security issues.
“We know that he made it public, but individually; any formal situation before the Prosecutor’s Office is not with us,” he admitted.
