MADRID, Spain.- The prestigious Michelin Guide included in his 2023 recommendations to the iconic Versailles restaurant, located on Calle Ocho in Miami, in Little Havana.
“Everyone knows this corner of Calle Ocho”, “It’s packed day and night with locals who have been eating here since they were kids. They are kept company by tourists and politicians who want to be seen”, highlighted the Michelin Guide when making the announcement on its website.
The review also refers to the decor of the place: “etched mirrors on all sides and sparkling chandeliers make the dining room feel even more cavernous.”
As for the menu, he noted that it is “immediately appealing” with its wide variety of classic Cuban dishes.
“Find simple, homey pleasures in bowls of arroz con pollo, puff pastry empanadas, and warm yuca fritters. For those in a hurry, stop by the bakery next door for coffee and cake. For everyone else, this food will always be worth the wait”, said the Michelin Guide.
The Versailles restaurant, founded in 1971 by Felipe A. Valls, exiled from Santiago in Miami, over the years became one of the main squares from Cuban exile.
Versailles is a café, restaurant and bakery with a capacity for 370 diners and is decorated with crystals, statues and excellent lighting. The restaurant has everything you can find in terms of Cuban gastronomy. One of its greatest singularities is the “little window” through which hundreds of people pass every day to drink their Cuban espresso.
As the critic and journalist Alejandro Ríos pointed out for this medium, “Versailles brought the omnipresent ‘little window’, later reproduced in the corners of the city, where freshly ground coffee is dispensed and the possibility of a free Cuba”.
