The Central American Indigenous Movement (Micen) issued a statement condemning the actions of the US administration against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, describing them as a direct attack on the sovereignty of a sister country and a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law.
The organization, made up of indigenous peoples from Panama, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala, denounced that the Measures promoted by Washington represent an attempt to dispossess and looting of Venezuela’s natural resources and political processes.
“We express our indignation, as a regional organization of indigenous peoples, at the repeated practices of political, economic, diplomatic and media interference that seek to impose external interests on the sovereign will of the Venezuelan people,” the statement said.
Contemporary imperialism and historical memory
Micen warned that the actions of the United States are another expression of contemporary imperialism, which seeks to control territories and natural resources.
“Our historical memory forces us to raise our voices: when the sovereignty of a people is violated, the sovereignty of all is threatened,” the organization emphasized, underlining that the defense of Venezuela is also the defense of the dignity of all nations.
The statement highlighted that peace is not built with blockades or sanctions, but with dialogue, respect and solidarity between peoples.
Trump threats and international appeal
Micen’s statement comes after recent threats from US President Donald Trump, who announced a total naval blockade against Venezuela and stated that the country’s oil and resources belong to the United States.
In response, the Central American indigenous movement called on the peoples of the world, social, indigenous and human rights organizations, as well as States committed to peace, to speak out against interference and defend international law.
“Silence strengthens impunity and normalizes violence against peoples,” he warned in the statement, urging the international community to reject coercive measures and support Venezuelan sovereignty.
