Miami exiles support a letter from Cuban activists demanding a "democratic change"

(EFE).- The exile organization Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC) showed on Monday its support for a letter from hundreds of Cuban activists in which they ask for a “democratic change” on the island and urge the population to join to a “national movement of civic resistance”.

The letter is published in the context of several consecutive days of protests in different provinces of Cuba, from Pinar del Río to the eastern zone, and when “a growing number of Cubans have decided to demand freedom and change to face the economic and social crisis” of the country, says ARC in a statement.

“The extreme problems we are facing, including repression, power cuts and shortages, are the result of the policies that the dictatorship has imposed on the population for 63 years,” says the letter signed by 318 dissidents.

In this context, “especially since July 11, 2021, our people openly resist the regime, overcoming their fears in a national challenge to tyranny,” the activists affirm in the letter entitled “Cubans for the salvation of Cuba.”

“We want to be free. We have a sacred right to freedom,” say the dissidents, who “neither long prison sentences nor military force” have managed to “repress Cuban protesters.”

“We want to be free. We have a sacred right to freedom,” say the dissidents, who “neither long prison sentences nor military force” have been able to “repress the Cuban protesters.”

They assure in the letter that Cuba “wants to eradicate communism” and call “every citizen” to “national resistance” and seek “the best methods and places to join the fight.”

“Today we are united to affirm that we are on a national strike against this repressive regime, and this national strike begins with awareness,” he adds.

The Assembly of the Resistance, which is based in Miami and includes opposition groups from inside and outside the iIla, supported the announcement of “a new stage in the struggle for freedom” and “a strike against this repressive regime.”

“We need to cease any form of cooperation with the regime, take to the streets at every opportunity and place to demand freedom and then, under the right conditions, join a General Strike,” the letter concludes.
