Miami: Book on Freemasonry in Cuba by journalist Camila Acosta will be presented

Camila Acosta

MIAMI, United States. – The investigation From the temple to the temple, silences and scandals of Cuban Freemasonry (Primigenios Publishing House, 2022), by journalist Camila Acosta, will be presented at the Miami Book Fair, from the 18th to the 20th of this month.

In statements to CubaNet, Acosta indicated that “one of the novelties of the volume” is that it includes the history of the female branch of Cuban Freemasonry, the so-called Daughters of the Acacia.

“In the book I also tell the story of the last 70 years of Freemasonry, something ignored and/or manipulated: from the contributions of Freemasonry to the fight against Batista and even against Fidel Castro in the 60s, the persecution of Freemasons for their political ideas, why there is a Grand Lodge of Cuba abroad, the identity of the 12 Freemasons who were part of the Group of 75 of the Black Spring… until the letter of the Sovereign Grand Commander to Díaz-Canel against the repression on 11J”.

Acosta initiated the investigation that led to From the temple to the temple, silences and scandals of Cuban Freemasonry more than five years ago.

“My journalism graduation thesis in 2016 was a documentary about Cuban Freemasonry. After that I realized that there was still a lot of information gap about Freemasonry, even among Freemasons themselves, and I delved deeper into the subject”, he explained.

The volume reconstructs the history of Freemasonry in Cuba throughout 430 pages. “But it is an aside to the reconstruction not only of the history of Freemasonry, but of our country’s history, because the history of Freemasonry is closely linked to the history of Cuba,” Acosta said.

This Wednesday, From the temple to the temple, silences and scandals of Cuban Freemasonry was the sixth best-selling book on Freemasonry on Amazon, where can be purchased.

However, its author is aware that “it will not be possible to enter Cuba unless it is clandestinely.”

“I will not be able to present it, first because I am politically persecuted and, second, because of the issues that the book deals with. It’s going to be a censored book here,” lamented Acosta.
