Technicians from the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of the Environment Colón, intensify inspection, control and surveillance strategies in the projects of different economic sectors of the region and complaints filed by citizens.
The initiative is due to the number of complaints that are dealt with, through the 311 Citizen Attention Center or that are presented to the Legal Advice Office of the Regional Directorate, for possible effects on the environment in relation to activities, works or projects made in Columbus.
Added to this are follow-up inspections of projects that must be carried out approximately every month, in compliance with the annual operating plan.
Colón, Portobelo Santa Isabel and Donoso are the districts that require greater supervision, control and control.
Such is the case of projects in the construction industry, services, agriculture, livestock, food processing, among others, and routine inspection of activities that start without having a current environmental tool.
Part of the common findings are wastewater discharges, earth movement, logging, burning, affectations to water sources, contamination, hunting of wildlife animals, rescues and relocation of animals and in recent times illegal mining does not comply environmental regulations and they are denounced or non-compliances are observed during follow-up inspections, which leads to the initiation of administrative processes and subsequent sanction.
The approval of an Environmental Impact Study (EIA) requires the professional work of a group of technicians from different specialties and the vigilance of the community so that all programs comply with the measures to mitigate any damage caused to the environment.
