Mi Cultura reaffirms the commitment to artisans at the International Fair of La Chorrera

Within the framework of the 64th edition of the La Chorrera International Fair, the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) successfully inaugurated the Casa Artesanal, a space that brings together more than 20 artisans from the province of Panama Oeste, highlighting the best of the cultural and creative wealth of the country.

The inaugural event included the traditional ribbon cutting, carried out by the national director of Crafts, Cristina de la Guardia, the regional director of La Chorrera, Noemí Guevara Mock, together with María del Pilar Dejanon, advisor to the Higher Office and artisans, in a atmosphere full of joy that was accompanied by the vibrant cumbia chorrerana performed by the Mami Chacón ensemble.

Among the pieces exhibited in the Casa Artesanal are cutarras, molas, beads, hats, metalwork, jewelry, tembleques and other typical and artisanal products, which reflect the care, dedication and talent of those who work to keep the Panamanian tradition alive.

Cristina de la Guardia, National Director of Crafts, highlighted: “It is deeply inspiring to see how José Chong transmits his legacy to new generations, working alongside his granddaughter, or how Rosa Mojica instills in her daughter the love of crafts. This not only ensures the continuity of our traditions, but also strengthens pride in our culture.”

Likewise, de la Guardia reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Culture to the country’s artisans, expressing “you are inspiration and pride for Panama. From the Ministry of Culture, we are committed to walking alongside you, to supporting you and strengthening this path that you have built with so much effort, dedication and love.”

Isaura Garson, a prominent artisan specialized in jewelry, commented: “This fair gives us the opportunity to make ourselves known and sell our products. “I work with resin, woven necklaces and semi-precious stones, and this space is key to continue growing.”

For his part, José Chong, with 10 years of experience as a craftsman, expressed: “We do this work with care and love. The fair helps us not only pay our expenses, but also bring food to our homes.”

The International Fair of La Chorrera: a cultural meeting for the whole family
will remain open until February 2, offering a wide range of artistic, cultural and entertainment activities.
