Around 114 people from five provinces participated in the first public consultation organized by the Ministry of Culture in alliance with the Central American Educational and Cultural Coordination (CECC-SICA). This consultation aims to design the Regional Policy for the Promotion and Protection of Artists and Cultural Professionals of SICA, as well as to learn about their realities.
Among the topics addressed at this meeting were problems and proposals regarding the recognition of artists and the generation of data, as well as laws or regulations that affect artists and their social protection.
Important topics such as fair remuneration, access to funding, equality, inclusion and diversity, the digital environment, artist mobility and artistic freedom, among others, were also discussed.
This consultation was addressed to cultural managers, artists and independent associations from the provinces of Chiriquí, Veraguas, Herrera, Coclé and Panama.
During the five days of consultation, participants participated in workshops in which artists and managers gave their opinions on the different issues discussed and suggested possible solutions.
The meeting was led by the National Directorate of Cultural Rights and Citizenship and the National Directorate of the Arts, in addition to the inter-institutional collaboration of the Panamanian Institute of Labor Studies of MITRADEL.
This is an initiative of the Central American Educational and Cultural Coordination (CECC-SICA), whose objective is to generate quality data and information for decision-making, ensure that the rights of artists and cultural professionals are protected, and recognize their contributions in the region.
