The Public Defender’s Office of Minas Gerais (DPMG) has open enrollment for the right to To have Father of 2022. The initiative helps in the identity of children by seeking to exercise their right to paternity.
Interested parties have until September 30th to register. The event will take place on the day october 7th. In addition to the headquarters, in the capital Belo Horizonte, another 61 units in the interior of the state will participate in the mobilization, which will take place simultaneously and in person since the covid-19 pandemic. The number of units participating is a record.
This will be the 10th edition at the state level of the joint effort to recognize paternity/maternity, guaranteed by the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA). Since the first edition, in 2011, the task force has already carried out more than 60,000 consultations and around 10,000 DNA tests. On average, 70% of them test positive.
To participate in this edition of the right to To have Father, the interested party must register in each participating unit. The applicant must prove the absence of the father’s or mother’s name on the birth certificate. The entire service is free of charge and includes DNA tests and spontaneous recognition of paternity and maternity.
Data from the National Council of Justice (CNJ) indicate that 5.5 million Brazilian children do not have their father’s name on their birth certificates. In Minas Gerais, according to the National Association of Registrars of Natural Persons (Arpen-Brasil), more than seven thousand babies born in 2021 do not have the father’s name on the certificate.
Documentation
Those interested in participating in the task force must forward the necessary documentation directly to the DPMG unit in their city, through digital channels or in person, as made available by each unit. You must present:
– birth certificate of the person who wants to be recognized (without the name of the father or mother)
– proof of residence
– personal document of the legal representative (in the case of a minor applicant)
– name, telephone number and/or address of the alleged father
spontaneous recognition
The alleged father who wants to spontaneously recognize his son can also register to participate in the collective effort. In this case, he must inform the name of the person he wants to recognize, telephone number and address.
For those who want to make spontaneous recognition, the parties (father or mother and children) must also send the documentation. The Public Defender’s Office of Minas Gerais will schedule a conciliation session between them and a public defender.
