Mexico’s working conditions in 4 graphs

Mexico's working conditions in 4 graphs

“To live comfortably, without talking about luxuries, we need to have a middle social class, around three minimum wages, around 22,900 pesos per month, and only 8% of the population earns between two and three minimum wages,” said Eréndira Yaretni Mendoza. Meza, specialist in economic matters, development and internationalization.

“The lower social class receives about 11,300 pesos per month on average (1.5 minimum wages) and the upper class earns about 77,975 pesos, which is 10.44 minimum wages,” he added.

Franco recognized that measures such as the outsourcing reform, increases in the minimum wage and changes in terms of freedom of association are positive for workers. However, the new administration, led by Claudia Sheinbaum, will have to create the conditions to reactivate investment, the spearhead for greater productivity, production and hiring, which will bring new jobs and better working conditions.

The challenge will also be to increase purchasing power. Mendoza Meza assures that conditions of certainty must be met to attract investments, among which are a controlled depreciation of the currency and higher, planned inflation.

“If there are more companies, jobs and fair labor policies, people will receive salaries with a currency that is worth more. That is to increase purchasing power through a series of monetary policies that the Bank of Mexico and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit would have to implement,” he considered.
