Mexico's economy grows less than expected in second quarter

Even so, Latin America’s second-largest economy has recorded 11 consecutive quarters of growth.

The modest quarterly growth was led by a slight increase of 0.3% in both secondary activities, which include manufacturing, and tertiary activities, which include services.

In contrast, primary activities, which include agriculture, fishing and mining, fell 1.7%.

On an annual basis, GDP grew 2.2% in the second quarter, above the 1.6% increase in the original figures for the previous period and slightly better than analysts’ expectations of 2.1%, marking its 13th consecutive quarter of expansion.

Final second quarter GDP figures will be released on August 22.
