Mexico’s economic activity has its best performance in a year

At an annual rate, the growth of economic activity was 2%, in real terms and, by economic activity, the primary ones rose 5.3%, the secondary ones 2.9% and the tertiary ones 1.1%.

This is the best performance of the economy, for a single month, since March 2021, when the IGAE increased 3.48%, at a monthly rate, before falling 1.2% in April of that same year.

Almost six months of growth, but with slowdown in May

In five of the last six months, the Mexican economy has shown monthly growth. Only in February did it have a stagnation. The IGAE is the indicator used to estimate the growth of the Gross Domestic Product in Mexico.

With these results, the current level of economic activity is only 0.14% below the pre-pandemic level of February 2020, according to calculations by Grupo Financiero BASE.

However, the timely indicator of economic activity for May forecasts that growth in May would have stalled, with growth of only 0.1%.
