MIAMI, United States.- The Cuban regime is charging 1,177,300 euros per month, the equivalent of 1,195,936 dollars, for the group of doctors it has sent to Mexico in recent weeks, according to the agreement signed between the authorities of both countries, as revealed on Wednesday by the newspaper The financial.
The sum, which has generated a new controversy in Mexico, must as a condition of the contract be deposited in a bank account of the so-called Comercializadora de Servicios Médicos Cubanos SA (CSMC).
According to El Financiero, the money will be paid to the government of Havana for the services of 610 Cuban professionals who came to Mexico to fill, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has said on several occasions, a part of the 5,329 medical vacancies that they were not claimed by Mexican doctors in areas of high marginalization and insecurity.
The contract signed between the two governments establishes that the amount of money to be paid for a year would be based on a fixed exchange rate of 20.70 Mexican pesos for each euro.
The report also revealed that to guarantee that the Cuban doctors arrived in the State of Nayarit just two weeks ago, Mexico had to pay an advance of 50% of the first monthly payment, “to guarantee Cuban health personnel the minimum conditions for their stay. ”, reads the document.
During the first 10 days of each month, the subsequent monthly payments will be paid, according to the agreement, which also adds that for each Cuban doctor, the AMLO government will disburse the dictatorship 39,000 Mexican pesos, the equivalent of 1,897 dollars per month for each doctor. .
The El Financiero report explains that of that total amount, the agreement does not specify how much will be given to Cuban professionals, although it speculates that it could be 100 dollars, that if true, Havana would be charging 1,797 dollars for each doctor exported.
According to the agreement, signed by Zoé Robledo, head of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Cubans will have working conditions respected, and the requirements to revalidate the titles of professionals in the country will be required by the Ministry of Public Education of the Government of Mexico.
The arrival of Cuban doctors in Mexico has generated great controversy in the Aztec country, and opponents of the AMLO government have questioned him for financing the Havana dictatorship through health professionals who are exploited.
“We do not know, first, if they really are doctors, if they really have the capacity to treat the sick, but what we do know is that they are treated like slaves, because the money is not for them, but for the dictator Díaz-Canel, of Cuba, and already in this it was very clear that López Obrador defends dictatorships, autocratic, non-democratic countries”, said a few days ago Marko Cortés Mendoza, leader of the opposition National Action Party (PAN).
The legislator blamed AMLO for “human trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation” and warned that “it will be necessary to see if these supposed doctors are really doing health work or are doing politics.”
Health and human care generated 3,997,948 million pesos for the Cuban regime of the 6,879,664 pesos that the island received in 2020 from service exports. Health was exactly 58.1% of that total.
