“I wouldn’t say the defense of the T-MEC, it is the review, because it is in very good terms and we have spoken with the United States and Canada to review this in the best way for the three countries,” he assured.
The official indicated that they are working to see what the issues are to improve and strengthen it, but the priority is to maintain what we already have: the benefits in tariffs and that Mexico is already the main partner of the United States.
The issues that are going to be discussed, he highlighted, are the rules of origin and trying to ensure that Mexico’s exports are with components of the national chain, “that is the challenge we have in the coming years, that many of the things that come from Asia begin to be produced in the country.”
The issue of the labor mechanism is also being reviewed to make it more expeditious and strengthen the supervision of these issues, “we are also working to ensure that the conditions of our workers are the best not only in the States and Canada, but also in Mexico.”
The visit to Washington is scheduled for next Wednesday and will last three to four days; Then there will be Canada, where a position will be established, since there will not be a change of government there.
