The proximity to the United States and trade agreements have made Mexico an attractive destination for companies seeking to relocate, not only to have shorter and more agile production chains, but also to be closer to their final consumer in the Western Hemisphere. particularly the US market, still the largest in the world.
It is expected that, as a result of nearshoring, foreign direct investment (FDI) arriving in Mexico will increase. Grupo Financiero Base expects the country to receive a record figure of 42 billion dollars this year, said Gabriela Siller, director of economic-financial analysis at Banco Base.
In 2022, according to figures from the Ministry of Economy, more than 35,200 million dollars of foreign direct investment arrived in Mexico.
