From May 1 to 6, the World Social Forum (WSF) will be held in Mexico, reported the Mexican Social Secretariat, an instance made up of groups linked to churches.
The WSF celebrates two decades of existence this year and, in previous versions, it has been held in Brazil, Venezuela, Tunisia, Senegal, Dakar, Bombay and Canada. Thematic forums have also been held on water, health and social security, transformative economies, migration, justice and democracy.
The organizers pointed out that the objective for which the WSF was born is still valid, that is, the fight against a capitalist system in which a few enrich themselves at the expense of the exploitation of the great majority, and threatens nature
.
They added that “we are experiencing a serious crisis of civilization that forces us not only to think together, but also to act collectively and contribute to the construction of the society and world that we want. We are living a deep war against our lives and that of the planet, a war of extermination that threatens the diversity of our territories, our history and our dignity.
We cannot speak of democracy, while millions of people in the world die of hunger, or brother countries are economically blocked over the interests of a few and without respecting their right to decide on their own destiny.
