Mexico will hire more Cuban doctors

The government of Mexico confirmed the hiring of more Cuban doctorswho will join the more than 600 professionals from the island who are already in the North American nation.

The information was offered this Tuesday by the director of the Mexican Social Security Institute and head of the IMSS-Welfare Health Plan, Zoé Robledo, during the morning press conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Robledo revealed that an agreement has already been reached to increase the number of 610 Cubans currently stationed in Mexican territory, although he did not give specific figures or dates for the arrival of the new doctors. refers the agency Latin Press (PL).

The official highlighted the agreement with Cuba in support of the IMSS-Well-being plan and considered the expansion of the services currently provided by health professionals from the island in his country “important”.

Regarding the presence of the Cuban specialists, he said that they “are stationed in places of difficult access in almost 80 municipalities in various states from north to south of the country” and affirmed that “their expansion was always thought of.”

The hiring of Cuban doctors to achieve greater health coverage in the Mexican territory is part of the signed agreements by both governments during López Obrador’s visit to Cuba in May 2022.

Last February, during the official visit of President Miguel Diaz-Canel Mexico, both governments agreed to “broaden and deepen” their collaboration in health.

The Mexican president has defended the hiring of Cuban doctors, despite the questioning of his political opponents and local medical colleges.
