“The instruction that we have and that we have been doing through the Undersecretariat for Human Rights and the Commission for Attention to Victims, of the CEAV, is to establish communication with the families, with the relatives, in the case of those who died, and with the injured or with their close relatives and guarantee them in any case the reparation of the damages”, said the official during the morning press conference on Wednesday, April 26.

The Guatemalan ambassador to Mexico, Marco Tulio Chicas Sosa, reported that he requested the Mexican government to repair the damage for the relatives of 19 Guatemalan migrants who died in the fire at the National Institute of Migration (INM) station. Among the deceased are also people of Venezuelan nationality (7), Hondurans (6), Salvadorans (7) and a Colombian.
But the Mexican Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, said that for the moment there is no formal request from Guatemala to repair the damage to the affected migrants or the families of the deceased.
“We have not had any formal request from the Guatemalan government or from Ambassador Chicas Sosa, but permanent attention is being given to them,” he declared. The Mexican official added that since they became aware of the events, assistance has been provided to the relatives of those who died and care has been provided to the wounded.
López justified that the director of the INM, Francisco Garduño, remain in his position, although the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) formally charged him this Tuesday for the fire that killed 40 migrants a month ago.
