The Foreign Secretary, Juan Ramón de la Fuenteannounced on Friday a comprehensive plan to reinforce the attention and consular protection of the Mexican community in the United States, with an investment of 115.9 million pesos obtained from Special Draw of the National Lottery Mexico with m migrant.
During the conference “La Mañanera del Pueblo”, headed by the president Claudia SheinbaumDe la Fuente explained that the funds will be applied to six specific actions, with the aim of serving nationals in vulnerability, especially those without economic resources.
“Accountability, as the president has indicated, with transparency, rigorously and periodically, so that it can be known exactly what they were used and what has been the impact of these resources on the communities,” said the chancellor.
The Foreign Minister explained that the six actions where the resources will be exercised are:
- Legal representation and guidance: Defense in deportation and criminal processes, support for minors detained and payment of migratory bonds in critical cases.
- Priority consular headquarters reinforcement: More personnel specialized in Brownsville, Detroit, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Miami, New Brunswick, New Orleans, Omaha, Presidio and San Bernardino.
- Consular protection visits: to detention centers, workplaces and prisons, to verify conditions and document possible human rights violations.
- Mobile brigades in rural areas: Extraordinary days to provide preventive guidance, migratory diagnoses and detect cases of abuse.
- Emergency care for natural disasters: Support for migrants affected by floods, fires or hurricanes.
- Informative campaigns: Dissemination in social networks and local media of the initiative knows and exercises your rights.
De la Fuente said that the impact of these measures will be evaluated quarterly, guaranteeing transparency in the use of resources and a tangible benefit for Mexican communities in the United States.
“We are going to ensure that they are in actions and on programs that may have an impact in the short term and that they can also measure the results to pay public accounts of the use of these resources in a clear, transparent, and periodic manner. We think that every three months we can,” he said.
For its part, the Head of Unity for North America, Roberto VelascoHe stressed that the resources collected will allow expanding the support of bonds to nationals that are going through a legal process in that country.
The Mexican consular network in the United States is composed of 53 consulates.
