Mexico supports UN condemnation for annexation of Ukrainian territories

“Mexico’s position has been very clear regarding the unrestricted respect for international law, in particular the prohibition of territorial expansion through the use of force,” said Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Mexico’s permanent representative to the UN.

The UN resolution declares that the annexation of Ukrainian territories is a violation of the Charter of the United Nations and demands the immediate withdrawal of the Russians to the internationally recognized borders.

Specifically, the resolution referred to the annexation of the Ukrainian regions of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia announced this Friday by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Last week, the Government of Mexico presented its plan to the Vatican to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Mexico’s initiative for Dialogue and Peace in Ukraine proposes the establishment of a High Level Council that can lead mediation efforts in countries in conflict.
