Mexico repatriates 47 Cuban migrants detained in its territory

MIAMI, United States. – Some 47 Cuban migrants were returned to the island by Mexican authorities this Wednesday, after being detained in an irregular migratory situation on Aztec land, indicates a report of the National Television News (NTV) of Cuba.

It is, according to that medium, the fifteenth repatriation operation of Cuban migrants carried out from Mexico so far this year.

Although many of the migrants are returned to the island after being intercepted by Mexican authorities, Cubans continue to cross Mexico in order to reach the southern border of the United States.

This same week, 11 men and seven women from the island were located by the authorities of the Aztec country in a hotel in Torreón, in the Mexican state of Coahuila, according to reports. The News Televisa Laguna.

In 2022, some 975 people have been returned to the island from Mexico. In total, so far this year some 1,878 irregular migrants have been repatriated to Cuba by air and sea, according to reports from the regime’s immigration authorities.

Also last Wednesday United States Coast Guard repatriated 84 Cuban raftersas reported by that US body in a press release. The migrants were sailing to Florida on five different boats and were intercepted between April 17 and 19, according to the Coast Guard.

“These trips are dangerous in improvised and rustic boats without food, water or safety equipment,” said Lieutenant Travis Poulos, of the Seventh Coast Guard District, after the events.

“Our air and ground crews, along with our local and federal law enforcement partners, work together every day to maintain an active presence in the Straits of Florida and the Mona and Windward Passages to help to save lives by preventing these trips,” he assured.

The Coast Guard also specified that since October 1, 2021 (beginning of the current fiscal year), its different crews have intercepted 1,446 Cuban rafters, a figure that exceeds the number of migrants from the island intercepted each fiscal year since 2017. until 2021.

According to the agency, the statistics have behaved as follows: 1,468 Cuban migrants intercepted in fiscal year 2017; 259 in 2018; 313 in 2019; 49 in 2020 and 838 in 2021.
