The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, met Thursday with the Chinese ambassador to the Mexican capital, Daojiang Chen, who explained that commercial measures, aimed at countries with which Mexico does not have free trade agreements, “derive from a legitimate national interest and not from external pressures; nor from a design with geopolitical criteria,” according to a statement from the Secretariat.
The differences between Mexico and China represent a new chapter of the frictions unleashed in the world following the tariff war launched by the United States, the main commercial partner of the Latin American country and with which it shares the commercial treaty of North America, Tmec, together with Canada.
