MIAMI, United States. – The Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) and the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (INEGI) of Mexico donated 8,000 tablets to the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) of Cuba, according to reported on Twitter Laura Elena Carrillo Cubillas, executive director of AMEXCID.

At the delivery ceremony, held at the José Martí International Airport in Havana, representatives of the UN, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Island’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, as well as the Mexican embassy, were present. in Cuba.
According to The universal, Juan Carlos Alfonso Afraga, from the National Office of Statistics and Information of Cuba, assured at the ceremony: “It has been very fruitful for our country because we are going to use them very well, we are going to take great care of them. We know the responsibility that we acquire with them and I am sure that it is the continuity of a great relationship that our office has with the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico, in general with other Mexican institutions”.
He added that this donation is the result of a decision made by the rulers of Mexico and Cuba.
José Eduardo de la Torre, INEGI’s director of Innovation in International Alliances, confirmed that the 8,000 donated mobile devices are fully tested and functional. De la Torre indicated that these devices will not only help in the process of collecting and processing census information, but also in other household surveys and many other statistical processes.
According to the official newspaper Granma, since 2022, INEGI and ONEI signed an agreement to develop programs and activities related to statistical information.
