The investigation, carried out by the Secretariats of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) and Economy (SE), determined that “there are serious irregularities and decisive actions by the company to hinder the free exercise of the rights of freedom of association and collective bargaining within Manufacturas VU”, read a joint statement.
The request was made by the United States government within the framework of the rapid response labor mechanism in specific facilities, included in Annex 31-A of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC).
The T-MEC, in Chapter 31, establishes the mechanisms through which differences between trading partners can be resolved.
The next step is a 10-day period of “good faith” consultation with the US government seeking a remediation plan.
