Mexico announces its vaccine against covid-19 and has more than 636,000 unused Cuban doses

Without the endorsement of the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) or the World Health Organization (WHO), the Government of Mexico announced having the Homeland vaccine against covid-19 ready. According to the general director of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt), María Elena Álvarez-Buylla, the data from the final phase are “successful” and can be used as “reinforcement against the coronavirus” from the last quarter of the year.

The Mexican vaccine against covid-19, which President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured would be ready by the end of 2021, had an investment of $54,000,000. Álvarez-Buylla said that this immunology “opens the way to the recovery of vaccine sovereignty, so important for disease prevention.”

The first 4,000,000 doses of Patria will be produced thanks to the collaboration of Avimex, a company that is mainly dedicated to drugs for animals, added the director of Conacyt.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who has been critical of the interests of pharmaceutical companies, resisted buying vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna to be used as reinforcements against the coronavirus. Between reviews, in September of last year announced the purchase of 9,000,000 doses of the Abdala vaccine against covid-19, despite not having been endorsed by the WHO.

The vaccine was announced for the booster campaign in Mexico, however it has been a “failure,” said a source from the Baja California Health sector who remained anonymous. According to data obtained by 14ymedioin seven states 636,203 doses of Abdala remain refrigerated, of which 88,812, who are in the state of CoahuilaThey expire next July.

On December 19, a batch with 104,600 biologicals was delivered to the state of Baja California, of which there is a record of 68,141 vaccines used and 36,459 in refrigeration, but they do not match the data offered in February by the deputy director of the state Ministry of Health , Nestor Saul Hernandez Milanwho claimed to have 32,780 doses that are valid until August and September.

In Chihuahua there are 90,273 Abdala vaccines in refrigeration of the 118,960 that the federal Ministry of Health sent them in February. Thanks to the expansion of the campaign, 28,687 people were immunized in that territory.

In Tamaulipas only 7% of the Cuban vaccine has been applied. According to data from the state Ministry of Health, the federal Ministry of Social Welfare delivered 119,800 doses, while registration data indicates that 8,386 vaccines were applied until February.

The Government of Mexico said that it has the infrastructure to produce the first 4,000,000 doses and they will be ready in September. (Capture)

In Sonora, the government’s campaign has not yielded enough results to advertise its data on vaccination. The only official report offered is that they have 98% coverage for people between the ages of 12 and 49 and 100% for those between the ages of 50 and 60. They say nothing about the 40,000 teachers who refused between March 23 and 31 to be vaccinated with the Cuban dose.

While in Jalisco, which at the time rejected the Cuban option, it ended up being applied in hospitals of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). Of 100,000 doses in existence, 19,900 were applied.

The same happens with the information obtained from Mexico City. The data is updated until March and 206,770 vaccinated capital residents of the 400,000 doses that were delivered are reported.
