Mexico announces a family reunification visa program for Cubans

(EFE).- The Mexican government announced a special program of family reunification visas for Cuba that will begin this Friday at its consulate in Havana due to the high demand of Cubans with relatives in Mexico.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will implement a program to assist Cuban nationals who urgently need to reunite with their relatives in Mexico. On February 17, appointments will be made available to the public exclusively for the reunification visa process,” the Foreign Ministry said Thursday. it’s a statement.

The applications will work with a Unique Procedure Number (NUT) authorized by the National Institute of Migration (INM) of Mexico so that the interested parties appear between April and June 2023, the Secretariat specified.

To access the process, it will be necessary to register in citascuba.sre.gob.mx. The Foreign Ministry recalled that “appointments are free, personal and non-transferable and will be assigned according to the order in which they have been requested until exhausted.”

The applications will work with a Single Procedure Number (NUT) authorized by the INM of Mexico, so that the interested parties can appear between April and June 2023.

The program is announced amid an exponential increase in migration from Cuba to Mexico, which detected 41,475 Cubans in an irregular situation in 2022, 487.55% more than the 7,059 in 2021, according to the Migration Policy Unit of the Ministry of Governorate.

In addition, the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detained a total of 224,607 Cubans on the border with Mexico in fiscal year 2022.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate of Mexico in Havana, continues to work to improve the quality and availability of the consular services it provides in Cuba,” the agency concluded.
