Pacific alliance
Before declaring the Pacific Alliance Business Summit inaugurated, Marcelo Ebrard highlighted the importance and proper functioning of this group. Proof of this, he said, are the requests for new members.
In her speech, Raquel Buenrostro, Secretary of the Economy, highlighted that at the end of 2021 the Pacific Alliance received 59.653 million dollars of foreign direct investment (FDI), as a bloc.
He also highlighted that the World Economic Forum placed the bloc in position 37 out of 63 as an attractive destination for attraction due to its competitiveness.
More than talking about challenges, he pointed out, it is important to talk about the opportunities that exist for the Pacific Alliance.
“We know that adversity is the characteristic of life, we are used to it, we have to see our potential,” said the chancellor. He added that the date on which Mexico will hand over the pro tempore presidency of the Pacific Alliance to Peru will soon be announced.
The Finance Ministers of Peru and Chile agreed on the opening of the Pacific Alliance for the arrival of foreign direct investment.
In this sense, Buenrostro highlighted the importance of internal relations, but also of looking towards other markets, including Asia.
They pointed out that work has to be done to strengthen value chains, as well as in a development that pays attention to caring for the environment, that is inclusive and that reduces the inequality rates that exist in the region.
“Now that we are in the middle of the Soccer World Cup, I return to that popular phrase of (Javier) “Chicharito” Hernández: let’s imagine cool things,” said Sergio Díaz Granados, executive president of CAF Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, during his speech.
“Let’s do cool things!” Foreign Minister Ebrard added.

Ebrard pointed out that at the ministerial meeting they will discuss the incorporation into the Pacific Alliance of Ecuador and Singapore, as well as Honduras, Canada, “it is very advanced”, and Costa Rica. The latter, he assured him, “I would see it relatively simple because we all have a free trade agreement.”
