In this new agreement, there is talk of a reinforced collaboration between national security institutions, security forces and judicial authorities.
“This cooperation, through specific and immediate actions, will strengthen security along our shared border, will stop the traffic of fentanyl and other illicit drugs, and end up arms trafficking,” says the joint statement of Mexico and the United States.

The keys to understanding
Due to their geographical location, Mexico and the United States face common problems, so they agreed measures to strengthen the border and combat cartels with respect to sovereignty.
“The governments of Mexico and the United States reaffirm our safety cooperation, which is based on the principles of reciprocity, respect for territorial sovereignty and integrity, shared and differentiated responsibility, as well as mutual trust,” says the joint statement.
Among the measures that were agreed to include:
*Strengthen the border security. Since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, both Mexico and the United States have taken measures to strengthen border security, including the sending of military.
*Eliminate clandestine tunnels. Given the increase in border security, criminal groups opt for the construction of tunnels to send drugs to the United States, so with understanding, the destruction of these spaces will be a binational priority.
*Tackle Financial flows illegal Both governments recognize that crime generates billions of dollars, so it is necessary to point against their financial flows.
*Prevent the fuel theft. The so -called Huachicol has become one of the main sources of income for cartels, so the objective is to improve coordination between both governments to avoid fuel theft.

*Stop the flow of drugs and weapons. Due to their link with the thousands of deaths that are generated every year, both countries pledged in combating substance and armament trafficking.
“This understanding we have reached includes measures to counteract illicit financial flows, the flow of illegal fuels, the arrest of violence generators, and the trafficking of drugs and illicit weapons, each in their territory. Also, we talk about the elimination of illicit tunnels that go from one side of the border, exchange of information, training and border security,” said the chancellor of the source.
