Mexicana goes for financial balance “in the medium term”

Mexicana goes for financial balance “in the medium term”

The director of Mexicana de Aviación, Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, considered that the “disciplined” follow-up they have carried out on their institutional program will allow them to achieve financial balance in the medium term, despite the fact that the airline industry is complex and competitive.

According to this document, in 2030 (seven years after restarting operations) they will have revenues of 3,854.2 million pesos, which implies an increase of 922% compared to 2024 (376.9 million pesos).

“It is necessary to walk, to have maturation and we are in that process. Mexicana has a short, medium and long-term plan. In the medium term it will be achieving its equilibrium point, which is achieved with economies of scale… the airline becomes more efficient as capacity increases,” he commented during the celebration of its second anniversary.

For now, the company managed by the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense) continues with its payment program of the 21,759. 2 million pesos required for the acquisition of 20 new Embraer brand aircraft, as well as the ground support equipment and tools necessary for its operation.

This year, Mexicana de Aviación received the first five E195-E2 aircraft with capacity for 132 passengers, of which four are already operating, and began the process of returning the three Boeing aircraft lent by the Air Force to begin operations in December 2023.

During 2026 it will receive seven more pieces of equipment and in 2027 the last eight (it is contemplated that by 2050 the airline “will actively participate in the main national and international destinations, connecting Mexico more effectively… through the consolidation of a fleet of 50 modern aircraft”).

To date, the airline connects 14 national destinations from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and by the end of this year it will have added, according to Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, close to 451,000 passengers, which will represent an increase of 19% (in October its flights had a load factor of 57.9% and a month before 50.4%).

By 2026, an increase of 106% is estimated and approaching one million users so that in 2030 there will be 2.6 million, with which it aims to have a 3.5% share in the national market (at the end of last year it was 0.6%).

“We celebrate two years of a stronger, modern Mexicana ready to continue connected to Mexico, with more accessible flights to all sectors of the country,” said the manager, who reiterated that more than competing with other airlines they seek to complement the country’s connectivity for the benefit of tourism and the economy.

By 2026, the current 14 national routes will be maintained in the first semester and three additional routes will begin to operate in the second.

The director explained that various national and international destinations are being analyzed, which will be announced in due course for marketing.

According to previously announced plans, from AIFA there are 11 international routes of interest, including Chicago, New York or Atlanta; However, due to current restrictions by the United States government, they cannot start.
