LIMA, Peru – The leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho”, was reported to have died this morning during an extensive security operation in the municipality of Tapalpa, in the state of Jalisco.
The news has been reported by several Mexican media such as Reform, Millennium and N+although official authorities have not confirmed the death of who is considered the country’s top drug leader.

For her part, the president of the Senate, Laura Itzel Castillo Juárez, congratulated the federal forces for what she described as a blow to one of the main criminal structures in the country.
“My solidarity with the Mexicans who suffer attacks, fires and blockades. Stay at home and be informed through official channels. States as important as Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Colima, Zacatecas, Tamaulipas and Guanajuato (until now), should not be at risk from organized crime or experience this pain. We must unite as a society, beyond ideological differences, Mexico must be our priority,” the president of the Chamber of Deputies wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Deputies, Kenia López Rabadán.
Oseguera Cervantes was considered a priority target for Mexico and the United States, which offered up to $15 million for information leading to his capture.
Given the situation, the governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus Navarro, activated the state security table and ordered the “red code” in the entity to reinforce surveillance after blockades and violent events in the region.
The authorities asked the population to avoid the affected areas. So far, no arrests or victims have been reported related to the clashes, while the deployment of federal forces to restore normality continues.
The Government of Mexico is expected to issue a statement in the next few hours with details about the operation and the security situation in the state.
