The Mexican government called on the population this Tuesday to participate in the scientific study of the Patria anticovid vaccine, which, they assured, is “progressing very well.”
“We call on people who want to voluntarily participate in the scientific study of the Patria vaccine,” the official in charge of managing the pandemic in the country, Hugo López-Gatell, said during the usual presidential morning conference.
The undersecretary of Prevention and health promotion He detailed in the weekly section on the pandemic that “the results are very promising”, since high levels of immunity are being achieved in a very short time, “even more than other vaccines in circulation”.
In addition, he explained that the volunteers will obtain a direct benefit, since they will have medical evaluations for a year, receiving additional evaluations of immunity, that is, about their general medical conditions.
The pandemic in Mexico is on the decline
During his speech, López-Gatell recalled that the pandemic in Mexico is on the decline: “We have been continuously reducing the fourth wave and the pandemic for ten weeks,” he shared.
Currently only 1% of the total cases of infections recorded in the pandemic are active.
“It is very clear that the trend has continued and it is expected that this trend will continue to decline,” López-Gatell shared.
Even so, he said, it is important to continue insisting that citizens apply the reinforcements and “do not trust”, because another wave could arrive with a different variant that affects the health of the unvaccinated.
97% of the people who required hospitalization during the last wave in the country were not vaccinated.
In relation to vaccination in the country – where a total of 193.3 million doses have been applied to 85.6 million people – the specialist explained that 90% of the population aged 18 and over is vaccinated.
For this reason, it is expected that it will be suspended after opening the application of the first doses.
“The application of primary schemes does not advance more than a few hundred people because coverage has reached its maximum,” he said.
For now, the entire country remains at a green traffic light for the second consecutive fortnight, which indicates a low risk of contagion.
Mexico accumulates 5,666,921 cases of covid and 323,235 deaths.
