The indicator, prepared jointly between the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) and the Bank of Mexico, and which was released this Monday, showed the perception of the economic situation of households and the country, as well as the prospects in the near future.
By components, the Consumer Confidence Indicator for February showed advances in almost all items. For example, the perception that households have about the economic situation in Mexico, compared to that of a year ago, advanced 0.7 points.
However, the current situation of households, compared to that of 12 months ago, shows a pessimistic perception, falling 0.4 points, according to the Inegi.
In addition, Mexican households also showed less confidence about the country’s economic prospects for the next 12 months, as this component fell 0.8 points.
Less confidence to build or buy a house
Within the complementary components of the index, the economic conditions to save and go on vacation also deteriorated. Both components fell 0.4 points at the monthly rate in February.
Likewise, the component that shows the willingness or plans that Mexican families have to build or buy a house in the next two years fell 0.7 points.
In contrast, consumer confidence in buying clothes, shoes and food improved compared to a year earlier; as the respective component advanced 1.8 points in February.
