MADRID, Spain.- This February 22, the Mexican airline Magnicharters inaugurated the Monterrey-Havana-Jardines del Rey route.
On the inaugural flight, “travel agents and tour operators from the Aztec country traveled this time to the northern keys of Ciego de Ávila to familiarize themselves with the services and benefits of the Jardines del Rey tourist destination, and to promote the Mexican market in Cuba,” he said. According to the official media, this familiarization group will develop a four-day program to learn about the hotel and non-hotel products of the destination made up of the Coco, Guillermo, Paredón Grande and Antón Chico keys.
The new itinerary, with two weekly frequencies (Wednesday and Saturday), has Viajes Cubanacán as its main receptive, which will work together with the Mexican tour operator Viajes Bojórquez, accompanied by Enjoy Travel Group and Skedio.
With these two frequencies, Cayo Coco will receive 49 flights per week; most coming from Canada and Russia.
Recently, Giovani Reyes, Marketing Director of Enjoy Travel, he pointed that Mexico represents 6 percent of tourism in Havana, but that during 2023 it is intended to expand it to 30 percent.
In this sense, and about the recent route, he commented: “We want to bring Mexican tourism to Cuba. We believe that Monterrey could push this a lot, we are going to promote a lot so that in a year we are talking about other numbers”.
Founded in 1994, and with a fleet of 12 Boeing 737 aircraft, Magnicharters currently operates trips from Cancun, Merida and Mexico City to Havana and Holguin.
Since December 2021, the Cuban authorities have been trying to capture Mexican tourism, and promoting Cuba as a “kind destination” in the Aztec country.
However, according to data from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI), between January and September 2022, only 20,857 Mexican tourists arrived in Cuba; when the regime’s claim was 40,000.
