The mayor of Barranquilla, Alejandro Char, announced that the Roberto Meléndez Metropolitan Stadium will expand its capacity of 40,000 attendees to 65,000. The announcement was made by the Atlantic president in the middle of the closing of the Naturgas Congress that took place in that city.
“The Metropolitan will gain size, we are going to put 20,000 more chairs, because great musicians in the world want to play in Colombia, But they need a stadium of 65,000 chairs. Let’s make that investment”Said the mayor of the Atlantic capital.

The goal of Char, as mentioned in several interventions, is put Barranquilla as a reference scenario for international eventsin addition to being used for the realization of entertainment and music events, not just sports.

“What happened here with Shakira is going to happen again. We are talking about the possibility of bringing Bad Bunny Soon here, Karol G and all that moves the economy permanently, carnival and all occupation”Said Barranquilla Mayor.
It is worth mentioning that if this project is carried out, It would be the first in the country that would exceed 58,000 attendees (as is the case of El Coloso de Palmasecawhich is located in the Valle del Cauca). As well as with the Mineirao de Belo Horizonte, the Arena do Gremio de Porto Alegre (in Brazil), or the Centennial Stadium of Montevideo (Uruguay).

The president has revealed his intention to make Barranquilla attractive for the different events that are held during the year, since this would generate employment and mean a great economic impulse for the city, the region and the country.
