Neighbors and merchants from Communes 7, 9 and 10 of Buenos Aires held a protest this Friday in rejection of the Metrobús work announced by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires on Alberdi and Directorio avenues, considering the project “unnecessary”, what it will harm the activity of the area and because they attribute it to a “real estate business” of the local administration.

The mobilization was at the intersection of Alberdi and Mariano Acosta avenues -on the border of the Floresta, Floresta and Parque Avellaneda neighborhoods with a partial cut to vehicular traffic- against the exclusive lane for public transport that will have an extension of 5 .8 kilometers, and whose construction started this week.

According to the testimonies, the Metrobus will have a negative impact on commercial activity since it contemplates, once inaugurated, the prohibition of parking on both sides of Alberdi and Directorio avenues.

Specifically, the first stage of the road project will be on Alberdi, between San Pedrito and Bruix, where there is a pole of sanitary and ceramic sales stores that groups some 400 stores and more than 2,000 employees.

In dialogue with Télam, Sebastián, a merchant for more than 25 years, expressed his concern “because if they do this Metrobus, our activity on Avenida Alberdi will be unfeasible because we work with large-volume merchandise, so With the restrictions, trucks won’t be able to unload and customers won’t be able to park nearby.”

For Juan Carlos Dima, a neighbor of the neighborhood, the Metrobus “is not necessary because traffic flows in this area,” after which he pointed out that “here there is a real estate business because with the change in the Urban Code constructions were allowed, so business that closes, buildings that are built”.

Fabio Pirone, a member of Comuna 9 for the Frente de Todos, evaluated that “There is no need for this work because in addition to being unnecessary and without consultationIt doesn’t make any sense because it doesn’t speed up traffic and puts job sources in the area at risk.”

“We suspect that there is a real estate business like the ones the City Government has accustomed us to,” he added.

And Pedro, from the Advisory Council of Comuna 7 and a neighbor, indicated that “A Metrobus does not make sense because there are no traffic jams on either of the two avenues despite the fact that they maintain that it will speed up traffic, in Alberdi, about 90 seconds”.

According to official sources, the one-way corridor will go in the General Paz direction through Alberdi and towards the center through Directorio to “improve travel times for public transport”, for which it will have a central lane and parking will not be allowed in both hands from the sidewalks.
