The Chinese consortium Metro Línea 1 spoke out about recent accusations of alleged delays in payments to several contractors in charge of the construction of the Bogotá metro.
In a statement, the company assured that there are no problems with subcontractors and that all payments corresponding to their services have been carried out in accordance with the agreement.
Metro Línea 1 SAS highlighted that it maintains commercial relationships with a significant number of subcontractors, which are managed in accordance with current regulations and best commercial practices.

“At the beginning of each of its subcontracts, Metro Línea 1 SAS provides its subcontractors with resources that allow them to have the necessary cash flows to guarantee the liquidity that allows the execution of works without obstacles“said the consortium.
In addition, they assured that payments are made within the deadlines agreed in each contract, which do not exceed 150 days.
However, the company recognized that, as in any business relationship, differences may arise over the terms of execution of contracts. In these cases, they stated that the corresponding contractual mechanisms are used to resolve discrepancies without affecting the progress of the project in general.
On the other hand, the law firm “De La Espriella” indicated that they have found failures in the fulfillment of the consortium’s obligations from the planning stage to the execution and payment of the contract.
According to the firm, the contract officially started on June 19, 2024, but delays in the implementation of the Traffic Management Plan by Metro Line 1 SAS postponed the start of the works. The contract expired on October 23, 2024, and despite requesting a new agreement, the company has not responded.
The law firm expressed its intention to reach an agreement with Metro Línea 1 before considering legal action, establishing a period of three business days to receive a response and coordinate a meeting. If a consensus is not achieved, they warned that they will completely suspend construction work on the subway.

Despite the controversies, the progress of line 1 of the Bogotá metro is at 44.45%, with several works underway. Two trains are expected to be delivered in September 2025, which maintains the expectation that the project will continue its developmentbenefiting citizens in the future.
