At a press conference, the official explained that after the closure of Line 12 due to the collapse of an elevated section between the Olivos and Tezonco stations in May 2021, the section from Mixcoac to Atlalilco was also subject to review.
He said that during this time, structural studies and repairs due to humidity, corrosion, among other damages, were carried out in the underground section.
“The track was removed throughout the section, we changed sleepers, ballast, until reaching the sub-base stage of gravel and sand that was affected by humidity, the improvement was made, a concrete base was built with a double purpose: to avoid the penetration of water to the sub-base and give greater sustainability to the road”, he explained.
He said that the seven curves that exist in the underground section were rectified and in the case of the trains, they had a safety assessment study through train running simulation, dynamic tests and certifications.
“Starting this Sunday (January 15) this section of nine stations between Mixcoac and Atlalilco will restart, the journeys from end to end are 20 minutes, the wait in stations is estimated to be three minutes and 15 seconds” , he pointed.
Guillermo Calderón highlighted that until before it closed in 2021, the underground section of the so-called “golden line” transported around 175,000 users daily, so it is estimated that once opened it could exceed that figure.
