The bulletin released this Friday (31) by the Ministry of Health points out that nine states investigate cases of methanol poisoning. In total, they are 45 records under analysis in the country.
In addition to São Paulo – the state with the highest number of confirmed cases and nine under investigation, eight states have reports of suspected poisoning: Pernambuco (20), Piauí (5), Paraná (4), Mato Grosso (2), Rio de Janeiro (2), Bahia (1), Mato Grosso do Sul (1) and Tocantins (1).
Confirmed cases
To date, the country has 59 confirmed casess. The majority are concentrated in the state of São Paulo, which records 46 confirmations.
The state was the only confirmed location of beverage adulteration using material contaminated by methanol, with fuel alcohol adulterated with the substance. The fraudulent scheme was discovered on October 17th.
There are confirmed cases in Paraná (6), Pernambuco (5), Rio Grande do Sul (1) and Mato Grosso (1).
According to the Ministry of Health, 682 notifications were discarded.
Deaths
Deaths reach 15nine in São Paulo, three in Paraná and three in Pernambuco. Deaths under investigation fell to six, of which São Paulo and Pernambuco have two cases each and the states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Rio de Janeiro have one case under investigation each.
Since the beginning of the health crisis, 40 suspicious deaths have been ruled out.
