The giant of social networks Goal (Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp) announced Friday the cancellation of its diversity, inclusion and equity (DEI) programs, another big shift in its strategy that aligns politically with conservative policy priorities.
In a memo to employees, the company discussed eliminating its diversity-based hiring approach and disbanding its team dedicated to DEI policies.
These changes occur in the midst of what Goal calls “a changing legal and policy landscape” following recent decisions by the Supreme Court on programs that allowed increasing diversity priorities at universities in the United States.
The memo, reported by the media outlet Axios, comes after Meta abruptly reviewed its content moderation policies, including the end of its verification program on Facebook and Instagram in the United States, in a strong change in line with priorities of the agenda. the future administration of Donald Trump.
The ad echoed long-standing complaints from the Republican party and X’s owner, Elon Muskon the moderation and verification of content including hate speech on social networks.
The head of goal, Mark Zuckerberghas recently sought a reconciliation with Trump since his election in November, including donating $1 million to his inauguration fund, as well as hiring a Republican as the company’s head of public affairs.
On Friday, he also gave an interview to Joe Rogan’s popular podcast in which he criticized the Biden administration for calling for censorship of content on Meta platforms during the coronavirus pandemic.
Republicans have long been against diversity programs at companies, many of which were established in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement in an attempt to recognize racial disparities in the country.
